What determines what type of mouse connection a computer has? The case?
My PC has a serial and my old adapter isn't working for the optical mouse I just got with a PS/2 and USB. |

The mouse connector depends upon the form factor of the motherboard. You have an AT board in an AT case, and I've never seen a way to get a PS/2-USB mouse to work on the serial port. the ATX motherboard & case sport PS/2 mouse connectors, and USB ports.
