Generic scanner drv for XP, does it exist?

I cant install my Primax 4800 direct scanner in XP since Primax has no XP support for this scanner and wont make an update, ihave tried the 98 and the 2000/NT drivers and they dont work.

But there must be a general scanner drv for XP that should work somewhere
outhere, or im i wrong?

Any tips or suggestions?

Its really stupid that you cant use a 3 year old scanner that works perfect and must buy a new one just to make it work with XP!

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem with an Acer scanner and wonder if these will become available in a few weeks/months ... hope so.

Can't say for your particular scanner, but XP and my HP5100c scanner work fine with the "generic XP software" alias (The scanner and camera wizard) that is included, either that or the HP gets along better with XP, from rough memory it was not in the XP accepted hardware list.
But it works fine so I will wait for HP to release new software then all the software accessories will return.
But in saying that, I did try to install the 98 drivers and software for it, not a good idea, it went ballistic and restarted continually, ended up having to do a system restore to the previous day.
You could try to trick the system into thinking it is a different brand scanner ? Cant hurt, can only go ballistic !
