Motherboard Recommendation
I am looking for a simple motherboard to house a Cel-Mine Flip Chip. All motherboards new or old seem to be running about the $100. Well, make that all quality motherboards new or old. I am replacing a much beloved Asus P2B 440BX, which might be going up on the auction block (or butchers block depending) if anyone wants it.
Currently have 256MB PC100 RAM, Matrox Millennium G200 16MB, and SB Live. I hope to upgrade to a 100MHz FSB Celeron at 600 - 1000 MHz, depending upon overclockability. I had my eyes set on an Asus TUSL2-C motherboard, but that seems a bit high for what I need. The MSI 6337 series looks very good, but I am having trouble decifering between the lite and pro and all the different printed versions of both. Well, here is a list of frets: 1) It says supports Celeron upto 900MHz, but I assume that is because nothing was faster when it was printed, correct? 2) New AGP are all backward compatible, so my old Millennium AGP should work, correct? 3) I forgot all my archaic RAM lessons, but ancient PC100 RAM should fit, as they are DIMMs. They have not changed pin settings since then, have they? 4) I have an old crappy ISA Adaptec SCSI adapter for my scanner. ISA is a no go anymore. Recommend a very low budget SCSI adapter? 5) Any real benefit going with the Pro over the Lite version? Everything seems okay, but I feel as if I am forgetting something. Respectfully, Demosthenes |

From the specs on the msi site the 6337 pro has "Integrated Intel GMCH that utilizes system memory up to 32mb for video" and 4 dimm slots compared to the lite's 3 dimm slots. Both have built in audio. I don't have any experience with the board and I don't know if that intel chip would benefit your Matrox card or not but those seem to be the only differences.
I couldn't check the msi site's cpu support status as it must be down or have heavy traffic. It should tell you the latest acknowledged cpu support from msi for their boards. http://www.msicomputer.com/support/msisupport.htm HTH

What connector do you need for your scanner - a 25 pin or a HD50? SIIG has some cheapies that work just fine.
For a mobo, how about a Soyo 7IS2? |

Demosthenes - I got thru now on the msi link I had above and both support up to the 1.2 celerons.
Glc - I was looking at that soyo board before glc, unfortanely soyo doesn't have an updated fc-pga celeron list for their boards so I didn't know how high it went. I emailed soyo but didn't get a response back. Do you know how high they will go for celeron support? |

pardegt - I figured since it is based on the 815E chipset that it would take the higher end chips. Not sure if I will even reach those speeds. Looks like I will be going with the Lite as soon as NewEgg gets them in stock.
glc - high density 50 pin. The old card is an Adaptec AVA-1502 if I remember correctly. Respectfully, Demosthenes |
