Boom Fcked up HAM modem

I got an Intel HAM modem from a neighbour
and decided to fit in my old (home built) p133
so it could have internet access, but its doing
weird stuff like when i first turn the comp on
it works, then the next time i connect it says
"cannot detect modem", sometimes it works if
i wait for the CTS light to come on in the
HAM Tray icon, but usually when i click
Connect in the dialer it says "cannot detect modem"
and refuses to connect. I am using windows 98 SE,
P133 with 64 megs of ram.

First of all, your language leaves a lot to be desired. Clean it up and you may get some responses.

tshall,
I don't think he was referring to your name.

Let's stop the bickering and slamming, please.

Does your computer meet the minimum specs for that modem? Many newer modems require a lot more horsepower than a P133 to work. The HAM modem is not known for being a quality, stable modem to begin with, it uses the (former) Cirrus Logic chipset.

I personally would use an external serial modem or an internal ISA hardware based modem in that machine, with either a Conexant/Rockwell or US Robotics chipset. Winmodems or software controlled modems will not work right, if at all, in a machine with a processor that speed.

I pulled it out and put it in my Athlon 800 with 512 megs RAM and it still dosen't work, recently it conked out completely, now it only initialises sometimes (like before) but even when it does it just keeps clicking and dosen't connect. Sounds like the relay's buggered, I bought a new modem and it works fine in the machine but i would still like to know what has happened to the Intel HAM, this PC was supposed to be built out of spares, not new parts lol
