When I boot up the PC, there is sound. I can record sound with my headset, and I can play it back. But then when I connect to the Internet, all sound ability goes! If I then uninstall the sound driver and then reinstall, it comes back! Help, what's happening?
I have been to Internet Options and multimedia, and play variously with volume controls. Is there any mileage in installing a different sound card and using tht instead of the one that came with the mohterboard? Your help much appreciated. |

Your modem is probably sharing IRQ with the sound system. Move the modem to a different PCI slot and see what happens.
Post your IRQ listings and let's see what's up. |

IRQ conflicts
Many thanks glc - I'm not at home for another eight hours, and I'll try what you suggest then. However, it does make sense, and a colleague here agrees with you.
I'll post later tonight. Tim |

Hi again
Well, I have success, but only because I removed the modem (AMR) and put in my old one from the other PC I have! When I opened the case, I found there's nothing in ny pci slot, so not sure about the IRQ conflict. For sure, it looked as if there a conflict between devices using IRQ11. Any way, this is a fix, of sorts. Thanks for the help.
