Speed up Dell Dimension 3000?
I have a Dell Dimension 3000, Intel Pentium 4. that i would like to speed up for my dad. I remember when we first bought it that it was pretty fast a couple years ago. But now its way too slow. It takes forever to surf the net, open files, or anything really. I've done what other sites say and defragment, clean up files. But it's still too slow. I recently installed Windows 7 on it and decided to make it a completely new computer without any of the past files. So it's practically brand new. I even opened the desktop and cleaned it very well from all the dust and such. So any idea what to do to speed it up?

Howdy. First of all, visit RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com. Below the blue stuff, click "system scanner". It will tell you how much RAM you have and if can upgrade. Your Dell will only hold 2gb and you may already be maxed out. RAM fastest and often cheapest way to improve.

Sorry for this little bit late reply, hope what I add and do some help (even a little). Without upgrading hardware configuration, here are a few things that usually will help tune any slow running Dell computer.
1) Remove Unwanted Programs. 2) Delete Any Clutter / Junk Files. 3) Clean Out The Registry. 4) Disable automatic startup of some programs. 5) Defragment your system. Also if you are not so technnical, download and use this freeware CCleaner to take some stress and make it easy. I have used this program for over 24 months. Hope this helps solve the issue, best regards ![]() - from A 5-year Dell laptop user |
