That's oldly where I found system restore, because F11 is still not working. Well, I tried to do a restore since I'm not busy today, and have no excuses to why I can't do it. Well, it didn't go so well. It keeps saying something about a floppy disc or drive I guess. Diskette is what it's saying. So, I've tried maybe 3 times to see if I was just doing it wrong. It'll say Factory restore Acknowledged. and them restart. When it comes back up it still has this other guy's username on it, and it's still not looking like it's really done anything.

You have either a 460W or 650w power supply so you can get a nice video card for it. Can you look on the power supply to verify? It apears to have 1 GB of memory so you could stand to upgrade that to 4GB.

Give us a budget for upgrade. If it were me, I would drop 4GB of memory (link below) and add the video card in the link below.

CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5

Here is a nice video card for the money but there are better.
EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI
Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Here are the compatible CPU's for that Chipset.
CPU-Upgrade: Intel 955X Express chipset processor support

see step 3 in the link below, it should work unless someone deleted the restore partition.

Okay, I'm looking at the Online manual for this tower.

1 K9341 Card, Graphics, 256, 6800, HMGA11 NV42
^So that's a GeForce 6800 correct?

It's a 250GB HHD

Specs

Only thing specs doesn't show is GPU. Lol, which was not easy to figure out. It's a 460w PSU.

"Dell PC Restore by Symantec" <--- where do I find this in the computer?

You have a 6800 gs if I recall correctly. You could upgrade with the video card I linked you too in the previous post.

Well, this computer is going to my brother. As said above. Most likely he will not be able to do upgrades till December when he get's christmas money. I'd just pay for it, because I Really wanna see what upgrading will do to it. And see what potential it has. In all the reviews, it talks about running Doom 3 at mid settings.

He won't make an account and figure out what to do to it himself, so I have to do it, and fix it up for him.

My build I'm working on.
Because all my money is going to this right now, I can't help him pay for parts. So, budget wise, I'd say, "At what price would it cost to bet the best performance out of this computer" and I'll talk to my mom figure out what she's willing to pay after I got a good estimate of what it's gonna cost to get it running really nice.

Just asked her what her price limit is gonna be on christmas, and she said, I don't know. I know what's what's gonna happen. Christmas will come and it will get upgraded. So price range is open. But, to be nice Let's try and keep it under $400

Can someone find me benchmarks on this EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE 1GB?

Alright. That's funny because I have a 6100 SE in the computer I'm on now. 6800 gs is better, correct?

Already found the info you copy and pasted. And Alright. Now, I just gotta figure out this diskette issue. Checked the online manual, and it's saying its one of the CD drives, but I've sat here for 3 hours trying to fix it. It only happens when I try to system restore. Is when it says that diskette not found. or diskette not booting. To be honest i'm really getting fustrated. I've tried everything, even used a troubleshooting sheet a friend gave me to help me with issues.

also, it will not let me connect to the internet so I can update the drives. I know are id and pass for the modem, and every time I get "Error 769: The Specified destination is not reachable" so I click more info and get "Either you specified a destination address that is not valid or your remote access server is down. Check destination address and try again."

Yeah, that's what I use. We have 3 on ethernet cords, and one wireless, running off it. Took out the xbox ethernet to put in computer so I can update drives, but that's the message I'm getting.

It should be plug and play - you don't have to log into the modem. Are there any flagged devices in device manager? Is the Ethernet adapter showing as installed and working? What about your Local Area Connection in Networks?

Well, I though because it has a password it won't just connect. Or does going through wire instead of wireless, take out the need for a password?

Also, what are good options for updating drivers? Is there a program so you don't have to go to every site and singlely do it?

Plug and play wired, no password required.

All the drivers you need are on the Dell website - till you upgrade the video card. Just use your service tag number (see why that's so important?).

Yes sir. I do see that. I mean, like... I was gonna update my e-machine drivers, but I can't figure out how you do this. I did my realtek for my audio, and it knocked my audio off. So, I wanted to know how the right way to do it is, so I don't go messing something else up.

When it comes to the drivers on a eMachine, my attitude is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". There should be drivers available on their site if you do need them. At least with name brand machines, it's "one stop" shopping unless you start doing upgrades such as video cards or adding any other cards.

Well I downloading from e-machine's site. Clicked up setup. It ran fine, put the folder where setup was in, in the recycling bin, then it was like REALTEK..... something about not working right, when I turned Teamspeak3 on. Which I do hate, but my clan requires i use it. -.- So, this is why I asked, because Obviously I did something wrong.

Terms I do not understand. I really just need a huge book of computer terms, and start reading. Lol.

I fixed it. It ends up, I didn't restart my computer. When I though I did. So the driver update wasn't showing on TS3. So, I re-installed the driver update, restarted my computer, and this time it showed Microphone(High Definition Audio Device) crossed out with - Invalid next to it. At first I was like. O.O what did i do? Then I seen the same thing, but before high it says "Realtek" so the Audio driver update changed the audio to Realtek... odd of a company to do if you ask me, but eh. It's whatever. Thanks anyways for the help on that one.

Also, tomorrow, I'll try again with the internet issue. Maybe It'll work after a day of rest. I put in in my entertainment center. Huge space where shelving was, but we took them out. So it's sitting there, and I got my case (Cooling Master CM 690) sitting infront of the hole where the shelving was with the plastic that came on the box over it. I don't have 3 screens, so I use my brothers, and well.. after the all that attempting to get somewhere with it yesterday, I put it back in it's spot(completely un-plugged).

This video card will not work with his PC as the 460w power supply only has one 6-pin connector and this video card requires 2.

Am I wrong here?

It comes with adapters to run the 6 pin connector off of standard Molex. The PSU is high enough quality to handle it, but of course this is not ideal.

right it has adapters, but what would you plug the adapters into? the plugs for the cdrom/dvd drives?

I only care because I want to upgrade my video card to a nice card, but I have the gen5 with 460w... I would buy a 650w if a) they still supplied it or b) someone was selling one, but no...

maybe time for a new build.

Yes, that's what a Molex is - the flat 4 pin connector that's used for IDE drives.
