If comparing identical RAM, the 2 sticks at 4gigs is better mainly because it allows for expansion later on. That way instead of having all 4 slots taken up with 8gb, down the road you could potentially get more RAM because you only have 2 slots occupied.
As far as 8gigs vs 8gigs of identical RAM, the difference isn't usually noticeable in my findings. Maybe others can shed some light on it. HOWEVER, usually most people ask this question without knowing the differences between the RAM. Whether they are Dual Channel kits or just 2-4 sticks of RAM and have no Dual Channel capabilities. I would like to note that DDR2 and DDR3 ARE NOT the same as Dual/Triple channel. They refer to different things and should not treated as the same. Hope this helps. Edit: If you have a specific case you are referring to, give us a little more information and we can help you make the right decision. Last edited by Hippo08; 08-10-2011 at 02:15 PM. thanks for the input. I'm just thinking I like projects lol. So when I upgrade to the newer amd or even intel systems. I currently have a 790FX chipset AMD system. I guess if i had to say something specific it would be duel channel DDR3 memory
