Thumbs up

Hi BURL,

First, there's no need to type in all caps. On the internet it's considered yelling.

Second, yes you can isntall a better modem. Here's what you do:

Go into Device Manager (right click on My Computer and choose Properties) and remove the old modem.
Restart the computer, go into the BIOS and disable the onboard modem.
Shutdown the computer, install the new modem.
Intall the drivers for the new modem.
Hope that helps.

Talking BURL

Caps have always been considered yelling. I was told that the first time I ever saw the Inernet which was about 4 years ago. DrZaius was simply trying to inform and not to be rude.

Two modems would in most cases cause IRQ conflicts unless set up specifically to work together through specific software designed for that purpose. Unless you are trying to emulate ISDN there would be no need to have two modems. Besides, you would have to have a seperate phone line for each modem

Modems

Then like DrZaius said, turn off the computer and Unplug the PCI modem from the board. Then boot up and uninstall all modems in CONTOL PANEL>SYSTEM>DEVICE MANAGER. Reboot and go into BIOS before windows can load and disable the integrated modem. Reboot and let windows load without installing a modem. Shut down and install PCI modem. Boot up and install the drivers and make sure the communications only contains dial up networking and hyperterminal. Your network should only consist of Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial up adapter and TCP/IP for the adapter.
Good luck with XP.
