Harddrive for Dell Inspiron M5010
As the title states, I need to buy a new HDD for a Dell Inspiron M5010.
I went to the Dell site and saw instructions for replacing the HDD but I can not find which type and size to purchase. The lap top is not mine and I will be replacing it for a friend. He dropped the laptop while it was running and it will not boot up completely any more. On the NewEgg site they stated that there were Laptop HDDs of different thickness. I don't want to buy the wrong one for the M5010 so any help would be appreciated. I'm assuming/agreeing with him that the HDD is toast, do you agree too? He did not make recovery disks so he will have to contact Dell for them to reload the OS. Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can provide.

Why don't you pull the old drive and determine what it is and use that info to order a replacement?

It appears to be a standard 2.5" SATA drive.
You can borrow *ANY* Dell Windows reinstallation CD/DVD, and it will load with no key or activation required. You will have to download drivers unless he has the Resource CD for the laptop. |

Have you considered buying off ebay? There are drive dealers that sell on there, some with sales numbers into the tens of thousands, and generally listed as top rated sellers.
I buy there regularly with no problems from those serious about their selling. |

Thanks glc, that's the info I need. Strollin & edfair thanks for the help, I don't have the laptop, he just called me yesterday so I'm trying to find as much info as possible before I start. I'll most likely post again once I have it in hand and see just what is happening as it tries to start.
