the hard drive
hi . do we clean the hard drive ?

Clean the contents within the drive or the outside case of the drive?

ok yes , i was just cleaning the fans and i thought about it but its sealed and clean
i guess . this is one device i plan to keep with my next upgrade i checked western digital and caviar black is still there latest product |

You never want to open up a hard drive. One speck of dust can damage or ruin it. For cleaning the outside I would just wet a rag, wring it out really well and then wipe it off ....or just blow it off with some compressed air.

It's kinda of cool to open a bad one though, just to see what is inside.

This is true but if the speck of dust is big enough for you to see without a microscope then it's too big to do any damage. It's the microscopic particles that are floating around that are small enough to get caught between the head and the disk surface that are a problem.
