Quick USB 3.0 ?
Are the case front USB ports speed or version specific? Can they be plugged into USB 3.0 mother board headers and work as USB 3.0 or do they need to be designed for USB 3.0 specifically?

Not sure what your asking but if you plug into the USB 3.0 header on the board it will run at 3.0 speed. You update them (controller) with the chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

To clarify, I am going to do an upgrade but use the same case. It has USB ports which plug into a USB header on the motherboard.
If I choose a motherboard with USB 3.0 on board and plug into the 3.0 header, will I get 3.0 at the front case USB ports? |

No. The front case ports have to specifically be USB 3.0.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but are the 3.0 connectors on the motherboard the same as the 2.0?
By this I mean, do they have the same 5 column by 2 rows pins on the board?

thanks, from the pic its easy to see that plugging in 2.0 ports into your 3.0 board would be impossible
