Check with Crucial.com to confirm what type and how much RAM your computer can use. You may also want to order from them because although their RAM is not the least expensive, they guarantee it will work, or your money back. Crucial is especially good for older computers that have RAM that is not of the current generation of RAM.

Are you using both the new and old RAM or just the new RAM? It is better to have identical RAM if you have two or more slots. Have you tried only the new RAM?

thanx for your reply david ive checked with crucial.com and it appears that ive got the correct memory(168pin pc133 sdram 133mhz) and my computer can use up to 1gb and ive tried using my old ram with new ive tried using both slots and it not working i will order from crucial if i have to but ive just spent £20 on the ram ive got and crucial want to charge me another £60 and to be honest its more than the computers worth and besides that it seems to have exactly the same spec just a different manufacturer it also says on crucial.com that bios has to be A02 or later and mines A05 so i presume thats ok
heres the amazon link of what ram i bought http://www.amazon.com/review/R2B8H1D...R2B8H1D18R0P28

and heres what ram crucial recomend http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...Series&Cat=RAM

i cant see theres any difference

With older computers, it isn't just the speed and type of RAM that you need to look at. They can also be finicky about timings and exact voltage. If the new RAM or slots on the motherboard aren't bad, then those are two other details which might be causing the problem.

If you could post the exact specs of both your new RAM and what crucial recommended, we might be able to spot the issue.

I've had good luck buying compatible or exact replacement RAM off ebay. Lots of it has been working pulls from machines being parted out. Mostly Dell GX270s but have bought it for 240s to 280s as I have upgraded a dozen or so. Not a dud yet.

YMMV
