Cpu getting hot i think a couple of questions?

Hi all i am having a little trouble with my amd build. It has been shutting down the last couple of days and i have been looking at the cpu temp.

When i am scanning with spybot or anything that makes them run a little more than an idle the temp will hit 70 celsius and i think bios is shutting it down.

It is an amd build asus motherboard phenom2x4 955.it is only a 1.5 to a 2yr old system. stock heatsink and no video card onboard video only.

Do you folks think i should use an aftermarket cooler?I may be adding video cards and such at a later date?

Any help would be appreciated.

If it's an 1-2 year old system, the first thing to do is check the CPU fan. In that time it could have easily acquired a problem. Is it spinning up? Is it covered in dust? Did a cable move and obstruct it?

What is the motherboard model?

Have you been overclocking?

You may need to replace the cpu/heatsink fan.

Are all the fans in the case working and intakes free from obstruction?

Here is the motherboard

ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GX

Newegg.com - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

There is one other fan in the case and it is working at 1041 rpm.The cpu fan is at 2556.

Mayby heat sink is bad and all no overclocking but all 4 cores are activatedbut they have been since i got this thing going. Everything is dust free blowed it out today as i type it is at 59 celsius with 3 windows open.

thanks for any help.

What would be a real good fan and heatsink that would hold up to some gaming and such so i know that i will get the right thing off of get go?

I'd pull the heatsink, clean it and the CPU cap, and reinstall it with fresh thermal compound.

Jdeb, the readings are comming from pc probe from asus. That is the only one i have vs the one in windows seven gadgets.

Glc i will try the recompound job that is probably the easiest to do.I may get a new heatsink and fan but that will be the quickest for now.

As always you folks are the greatest!!!!!!!
