floppy drive just stays on
hi:
changing a floppy drive because the old one just stays on all the time, but have the same problem with other ones. swithed the ribbon cable both ways, tried other floppies, but nothing works or just stays lighted up. is there a bad connection with the floppy connection and motherboard. any ideas. thanks |

Hi glenrose,
Are you matching up the red stripe to pin 1 on the motherboard and floppy drive? Is the twist on the floppy end of the cable? Have you tried another floppy cable? I'm not sure, but I think if the floppy controller went out you'd receive some kind of error message about it at POST. Cricket

Try flipping the ribbon cable over on the floppy drive. If the red stripe is on the left, put it on the right. That should fix it, at least it has worked for me in the past.
