Hey guys I built a computer a couple months back and I didn't have the money to buy a had drive then so I took a 250gb hard drive out of my netbook to use, but I am thinking its times to upgrade. I am starting to use this computer for gaming so I wanted to pick up a 1tb hard drive and I have been looking at 120gb SSDs. What do you guys reccomend on how I set them up and what I should get?
Thanks,

How much are you planning on spending?
Are far as setup, I would plan on a fresh install.

I can spend up to $200 but if possible it would be nice to go lower than that. But I was looking on how to set it up with just the OS on the SSD and then default all the programs to the other HD, and I recently had a computer die and it had a 500gb WD hard drive in it so I may use that as a backup drive.

Newegg.com - Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW120A3K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
The intel 520 series has been the reccomended SSD lately. You could put the OS on this, and a few games but you're going to run out of space quick. 182.00 120gb SSD Newegg.com - Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW060A3K5 2.5" 60GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) 60gb SSD 119.00 0S You could go this route and only put the OS on the SSD, but that's not going to do anything for gaming purposes. A good option would be the 60gb SSD for the OS and a 1gb Wd for the games, but then we get over budget. Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive This is a real good choice for your primary drive. 139.00 WD 1tb But for twenty bucks more you get an additional 500gb Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1502FAEX 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive 159.00 WD 1.5tb For the money you've got to spend, I'd go this route and put the OS and games on it. That board should have a 6gb/s port also. Last edited by rwest; 04-13-2012 at 09:40 PM. |

Alright! Thanks for the help! I may go that route but what is the biggest difference between those intel SSDs and SSDs from another company like OCZ that for the same price I can get double the storage. (Newegg.com - OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)) Is there a huge quality difference or am I just paying for Intel's name?

I haven't been keeping up with my PC friends(PCMECH) lately but that WD 1.5TB for $160 sounds like a good deal to me. Have the HDD prices come down yet?

I doubt they'll come down much more even with production increasing. With the way inflation has hit everything, the days of a large hdd for 70-80 bucks are probably long gone.

I used a Corsair Force GT 120Gb in my latest creation. Think it cost about $150. But there was a Rebate.

I think the HyperX is the fastest one out there.
