Touch screen monitors and sharing files

Hi all,

I'm trying to move my household to a complete paperless home. We currently write down what groceries are needed on paper as they come to mind. However, I thought I'd get sophisticated here and place a monitor on the kitchen wall for everyone to enter what groceries we need as we realize we need them. So I was thinking of using a touchscreen monitor and using MS OneNote, as I've been a longtime user and it lends itself to great file sharing.

Can anyone let me know if this can be done and what products they would recommend to pull this off?

Thanks!

You want an entire computer system and printer in the kitchen for one little list??? Why not type the list on the computers you already have in other rooms

Convenience! It would be used for other things as well but it's nice when your in the kitchen and just touch the screen to add groceries at will where the file will be seen on all the computers.

I think it's a great idea, My wife is always after me about not writing things on the list.

You wouldn't need a powerful system either. Just enough to run Windows 8. I think the software for the list maybe tuff to find. I dont use one note. Does it allow pictures? and would it have to run multiple instances for each entry? Maybe a database running open would suffice better, similiar to what the grocer's use.

Thanks RWest!

I want my house to be completely computerized. LOL

OneNote is great for things like this. I've looked around quite a bit. I'm still open to whatever software but OneNote is very customizable and I have all my lists already in there.

I don't mind even having a mouse and keyboard in the kitchen but would really like the touch screen idea with a keyboard. Almost like hanging an iPad/Touchpad hanging in the kitchen......hmm....maybe that's the answer! As long as the file can be shared and updated on all the devices.

Nah,I would use a wireless keyboard and mouse. All you would need it for is setup. Put it in a drawer or on top of the cabinets when not using it.

You may even be able to go wireless with a monitor. I've heard of it, never seen it though.

This should run what you want to do:
Newegg.com - ASUS P8H61-M (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Newegg.com - Intel Pentium G850 Sandy Bridge 2.9GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623G850

Newegg.com - Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT25664BA1339

Newegg.com - Samsung by Seagate Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
or the WD Blue
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136769

Newegg.com - IN WIN BL631.300TBL Black Steel MicroATX Slim Case Computer Case 300W Power Supply

I was thinking of the antec case, but newegg is out of them. I'd get one of the mods to verify that psu.

Without the OS its 355.94 in the cart w/shipping.

Well let me state this first: I learned from GLC. So I have a question.
I noticed the board you sugested (GLC) doesn't use a UEFI BIOS. One reason I went to a micro build was because I thought since we're going with Windows 8 on a touch screen, using the newer bios would benefit the overall system. I figured trying to find an itx board with a UEFI BIOS might have been difficult. Or is that really not going to matter?
