help installing CD-RW

I'm trying to install a CD-RW from Cyber Drive -CW038- but the system hangs while booting. I've tried different setups on the IDE buses, non of them works. I have a 630MHz, Celeron, 64MB, 20GB, CD-R, Win Me. Do I need to install the burning soft first (like Nero)? The new device does appear on the bios setup.

Cool

You don't need the software first. Which IDE channel are you putting it on? Is this a 80 wire cable (Blue, Black & Grey connectors) or standard 40 pin cable (all grey connectors)? How do you have it jumpered (Master, slave or cable select)? Is it the only thing on the channel, if not what does it share with?

You don't need burner software yet. On boot up, the bios sees the cd rw as a regular cd rom drive. It sounds like you've got it plugged in wrong or jumpered wrong. Also, what motherboard do you have?

I installed it as Cyber Drive says to: on IDE1, Hard disk as master, CD-R as slave; on IDE2 CD-RW as master. Also exchanged the CD-R and CD-RW doing the proper jumpering. Tried with cable select. Also left the disk alone on IDE1 as master and the CD-RW alone on IDE2 as master.

Send a message via ICQ to Gintaras
Did you adjust bios settings according your CD-EW setup(Type/Mode):
If jumpered master or slave/primary secondary/ IDE-1 or 2.
My CD-ROM and CD-RW both are as Type: AUTO, Mode: Normal.

Just like here:

i installed my iomega cd-burner and it said to "intall the software first" i don't see the reason for it, just like others have posted about it(the software installation, like it matters, FIRST), but it said to, so i did it that way, i'm one of those people that 'read' the instructions first, but maybe that's not a good thing...lol
