Acronis clone
I am planning on cloning my netbook to another hard drive. I have some questions.
First, the netbook has the hard drive partitioned into two. Is there a way to do this on the hard drive for the clone? (i.e. partitioning it or selecting both drives at the same time somehow)? Secondly, the hard drive I am going to use is in Fat32. Do I need to reformat it, or will the clone take care of that?

Yes, it should clone all partitions...and even allow you to adjust their size.
Been too long for me to answer the second question... You can always covert the drive to NTFS when your done.

The cloning process will wipe the target drive first, before it clones.

Okay, I cloned it today. I went to the old IDE drive from a desktop of the same size (160 gig). I connected it with the infamous Geeks adapter: IDE/SATA to USB 2.0 Cable Adapter - Turn Your 2.5", 3.5" or 2020
I booted from the CD Amazon.com: Acronis True Image Home 2010 [Old Version]: Software, chose the safe version and cloned. It completed successfully except the mouse was frozen. After I rebooted, I was able to click on both partitions of the clone and it was fine. However, when I changed the boot order to boot from it, it scanned for errors, corrected some, and would not boot. It asked if I wanted to get into boot from the last good configuration or go into Safe Mode. Is there anything else I need to do or something I did wrong? Note: One thing I noticed was the Netbook said something like low power on the bottom when I was cloning. I am not sure if that was an issue, but like I said it completed successfully and was able to be accessed if booted from the netbook's drive. |

I was trying to find the diagnostics on Western Digital's site and don't see my model. It is a Western Digital Caviar EIDE WD1600. Does it matter which LifeGuard tools / software version I use?

You might as well make an Ultimate Boot CD.
Ultimate Boot CD - Overview DLG Diagnostic 5.19 should work, if not, the UBCD also has 4.15. |

Okay, thanks. I have one made at church that I made around last year when I zero filled a drive there. I just thought I'd get a jump on part here. I'll either check that out tomorrow, or just do it at home here today.
