Can i use my gaming laptop as a second monitor to my desktop?

Hi all,

I am trying to use the Asus G53JW gaming laptop's monitor as a second screen to my desktop (build posted in my sig). IS this possible? Will a male to male VGA cable do the trick? because i have one and have been fiddling around with it but unable to attain the desired setup... any help much appreciated, thanks.

EDIT:
i should probably add that i am also using this monitor and plugging into it from the laptop with a male to male vga cable:

The VGA ports on computers can only send signals out to display devices, not receive. So, what you're proposing will not work.

I've seen this software advertised as being able to allow multiple computers to be controlled by one keyboard and one mouse: Synergy

It's free, so it might be worth a try.

Thank you Force Flow. I dl'd Synergy but could not figure out what to do with it and ultimately decideded it wasn't important enough for me to pursue the matter further. I guess laptops have a funny way of hogging its own computer screen or something. idk. lol. cheers.

Try searching for setup or configuration guides.
