Rules for Thermal Grease

How much thermal grease is too much?
Are there any rules to Thermal Grease or do most people just play it loose and fast.

Thanks,

Seth

Hi Seth,

I think the instructions here are pretty good. I always just put a small pea size drop on the center of the CPU core and let the pressure from the heatsink spread it around.

Hi sdkramer,

Here's a link to an earlier thread where one of the forum members experiemented with the amount of thermal compound used and what he found out: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=15900

Basically, you don't need much for it to work properly. Too much has the opposite effect as it reduces the thermal transfer between CPU core and heatsink.
