Hard Drive

I have wiped a Hard Drive from an old 98SE computer and want to use it to replace the 20 gig on the computer I bought the memory for. Anyhow, now I least I am formatting without assigning a letter as I already have a C drive in the computer I am using to format it with. May I change the volume to C: on the other computer at some point perhaps booting with an XP CD and before writing data to it, or will I need to reformat on that machine?

When you put that drive on the other computer and install Windows on it, Windows will automatically assign the drive the letter C, provided no other drives are present. As a precaution, unplug any USB card readers from the mobo –if there are any– or they will take precedence in the letter assigning.

It will also help to unplug the other drive too, assuming it also has Windows on it.(if it is also plugged in)
It mostly helps you; when Windows asks "Are you sure you want to instal Windows on this partition?' Been there before.
