Very unstable PC; BSOD - Hard Drive/SSD Issue?

Hello all,

My PC over the past couple of weeks has been experiencing a lot of instability. The instability simply has to do with a repetitive blue screen that would appear for no reason regardless of what activity I do (e.g. Music, Gaming, Internet)

Upon restart, the blue screen would appear every hour or so.

Frustrated, I originally tried for: Full Virus Scan (clean), System Restore (possible drivers affecting) and underclocking (computer was overclocked at a safe speed that ran successfully for 8 months).

Nothing seemed to work so I attempted a full reformat of my computer.
-Originally I accidentally formatted to my old HDD and had to do redo my installation of Windows 7 so I could install it in my SDD. The computer had been on for approximately 2-3 hours and did not receive any BSOD.

-After installing on the SDD, I proceeded to update my Windows 7 but upon reaching about 90% of my update progress I received a BSOD. I restarted and updated the rest. It seemed that the computer was on for approximately 1 hour as well before receiving its first BSOD.

-Since then I have not had any BSODs, but my computer just recently crashed (explorer.exe) and everything was frozen (taskbar non existent, Windows key not functional, etc.)

Based on my testing so far, I feel that the issue lies with my installation of Windows on the SSD. But it really doesn't make any sense to me because the computer runs fine for a good hour or two and randomly just crashes forcing me to do a manual restart or it receives a BSOD. And especially with a clean format, having a BSOD or crash right away is very frustrating as it isn't a software issue but now more of a hardware one.

I would appreciate any sort of help as it would definitely reduce my stress levels!

Thank you in advance. Please let me know if there are any additional details you require.

What does the BSOD say?

I would run hardware diagnostics on the ram and the SSD.

The BSOD would say how the computer shut down to prevent further damage and that the problem might be related to a software/hardware issue and that I should contact system admin.

But after this format it seems that BSOD has stopped appearing. So I left my computer idle last night and the Windows Explorer crashed (the taskbar was gone, no desktop icons). The only thing available was mouse and wallpaper and I couldn't do anything.

Today I will try installing Windows on my HDD instead of my SSD to narrow down the problem. But in the mean time how would you suggest I run diagnostics on my SSD and DRAM?

What brand is the SSD? You gave us NO computer specs..........

What was the STOP ERROR CODE on the BSOD?

My apologies I had completely forgotten as I got so caught up w/ the BSOD/Explorer issue.

I'm currently using:
Asus P8P67LE motherboard
Intel i5 2500K
Mushkin Enhanced Silverline Stiletto (12gb) DDR3
SSD - Crucial M4SSD 64GB
HDD - Western Digital 250GB (unsure of exact specs)
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 6750

As for BSOD itself, unfortunately I didn't grab the error code. Recently, there hasn't been any BSOD issues as I had installed Windows onto my HDD instead of the SSD.

The computer seems to be working fine so far being installed on the HDD. However, I will try to use the diagnostics to determine what is wrong w/ the SSD and will report back if there is anything at all. Thanks again!

There are no diagnostics for Crucial SSD's. However, you may want to look for firmware updates.
