Mouse freezing- sorry for long post
Hello all. This question is for a friend of mine.He is havin problems with his mouse freezing. The keyboard will work still and it freezes randomly 2-5 times a day. Doesn't matter what program he is using. I have tried the hardware accelerator with him, re-installed his mouse to look for drivers, took programs out of the start-up and shut down unused programs running in background.None of them worked for him. He mentioned it started after getting the cable internet card installed in his PC. We looked at irq's for conflicts and it seems to be fine, not that i know alot about them. I told him to unplug cable card and try to use the computer without it in but he hasnt done that yet. He tried a different mouse but same result. I was just wondering if there are any other things to try out for him? He has a DEll P3 800mhz with 256 MB ram with the ever so popular Win ME. He has a basic ps/2 mouse that came with no driver disks but tried a microsoft mouse also. He also has received this following error message on start-up. Sorry for the very long post and thanks for any help possible.... PC Mech ROCKS!!!!
ok my cpu forze again and i restarted and it gave me a msg that said"Terminating thread due to a stack overflow problem. A VxD, ossibly recently installed, has comsumed too much stack space. Increase the setting of ' MinSPs ' in SYSTEM.INI or remove recently installed VxD's. there are currently 6 SPs allocated. |

Follow this link to the Microsoft Knowledgebase for help in troubleshooting stack overflows. http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q149083
This link, after I tested doesn't take you to the exact page, so after getting there, look in the left pane in the Search area, click on search by document #, or to that effect; and then type in Q145799. Hope this helps. Edited by moderator to make the link work and to accurately answer the question

It seems according to your post that the problems started after installing the cable (NIC CARD). This being the case try it in another slot but not the one next to the AGP slot as this slot shares recources with the AGP Video Card.
But by moving it to another slot you are moving it to another IRQ thus freeing up the collision in recources that has developed by the installation of the NIC Card. This may very well solve your problem |

One thing known for causing that problem is having a hard drive that needs to be defragged. Try doing taht and see what goes on.

Edit your system.ini as detailed in AlwaysUp's post which I just fixed so the link works and points to the correct article for the MinSPs error.

...in addition to highrisemech post: after you install NIC, make sure that you have the correct drivers installed, with TCP/IP enabled. I have seen this problem before with pointers freezing. Make sure that you check Device Manager for any "exclamation points" over devices, in particular, Network Adapter. A good trick (after the correct driver is installed), is to remove the device from Device Manager completely, reboot, and have Windows auto-detect (they don't call it plug-and-pray for nothing!).
