will missing memory cause now power

ok, I could of sworn that even with no memory, the computer's lights will turn on (even if it's for a few seconds). I have an ibm think pad with memory missing and it won't turn on. Is it possible for it to not even power at all with missing memory? I kind of hate to have to buy memory to find out it's something else. Just double checking. Thanks

*note* laptop

missing memory will not cause a laptop to not power on.. Is the battery any good? Have you tried to plug it into a wall socket? If so then you have other issues unrelated to the loss memory..
