Northbridge way to hot

Striker 2 formula
8gb ddr2 ram
intel core2duo e8500
nvidia gtx 470
ultra x3 1000watt psu

just recently my north bridge has started to overheat, in the bios it says, 75c(takes about 10-15mins to reach that temp after being turned off all night.

It started to overheat after i had cleaned it out with an air compressor(was very dusty)

i have no idea why it started doing that after i cleaned it out, i have cleaned it with air compressor before no problems.

So i took off the north bridge heat sink and noticed asus was very stingy with thermal paste there was little to none on the chip set.
I cleaned it off with 99% alcohol and re applied thermal paste "Type z9 heat sink compound"

But its still overheating just not as fast, takes a bit longer to reach the 75c when idling (it goes higher than 75c when idling) not sure how hot it is getting because the pc will freeze up.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated, Thanks

How are your power supply voltages? Are you overclocking?

You may want to get an aftermarket cooler with a fan.

If you have access to another Power Supply, I would try that first however I doubt it is the Power Supply causing it.
You did about all you can do as far as home remedy. It's an expensive motherboard so deffinately worth sending it to Asus.
It is probably a capacitor going bad that needs to be replaced that is causing the Northbridge to over heat.
I would call them and see what they say, Asus will fix it even if it is out of Warranty for a small fee.
