Test Error Code: 08 - Need new hard drive
A friend of mine has a laptop that I ran the WD Diagnostics on and I got "Test Error Code: 08-Error was detected while repairing bad sectors."
Here is the full data ----------------------------- error was detected while repairing bad sectors please please call wd support for help TEST RESULTS Test Option: EXTENDED TEST Model Number: WDC WD3200BEVT-22A23T0 Unit Serial Number: WD-WXD1A6068532 Firmware Number: 01.01A01 Capacity: 320.07 GB SMART Status: PASS Test Result: FAIL Test Error Code: 08-Error was detected while repairing bad sectors. Test Time: 04:10:06, November 17, 2012 ------------------------------ Prior to that it was hesitating to boot into windows. It will just top. I guess it's time for a replacement drive so I called WD and also ran the S/N online as well. It returned as "No Limited Warranty" and I read the details which prompted her to contact the place she brought it from. WD also said No Warranty. I am wondering what is a good replacement drive and where to buy? She has no warranty from the source she bought it from. The drive is a 2.5 320GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVT inside a ACER Timeline X Aspire 5820T-5951 I was recommending the WD 320GB Caviar Black with similar specs because that drive gives better performance and reliabilty. At least from my searches. But whatever you guys suggest as a good replacement I will let her know. I am sure she does not necessarily have to go with the "Black". and especially since she doesn't do any high performance work. Also... 1. Does she have to send her old drive in? 2. What kinda of warranty and service will she get? I don't want hee to get surprised by bad CS, etc. 3. I know you guys recommend New Egg so no problem I will let her know. I do frown on UPS deliveries since I had some bad experiences with them and new egg in the past but I will let that go. I just want her to have her Laptop back up and running asap. 4. I will say she don't want to spend a lot of benjies. Maybe in the $60 range but lower prices also welcome. Her data is already backed up. Thanks if I can get any help. First thing you need to do is find out if the laptop itself is still on warranty. If so, Acer will replace the hard drive.
I hope she made the set of recovery disks........... |

She did not make any recovery disks so does this mean she have to order a recovery cd? Guess I can search Acer website.
She lost touch with the person she bought the laptop from unfortunately. |
