Will I be able to get 5.1 audio to my amp with this?
Hi all. I have an old Dell PC (win XP) which I have connected to my TV and use exclusively to stream video or play video files. I also have a Sony amp capable of doing 5.1 audio but only sent through optical (S/PDIF).
A few months back I bought an Asus Xonar DG audio card with optical out in the hope that I would be able to play all my video files that have 5.1 audio through my amp. Unfortunately, this was only true for a few files that have been encoded in such a way that allow for audio to be streamed directly through S/PDIF. I have done some reading and everything seems to indicate that I would need a card which is Dolby Digital capable and then I will be able play any video file with 5.1 audio through my optical cable into my amp. Looking around I found this one http://www.siig.com/it-products/mult...-1-pci-lp.html However, before spending any money I want to make sure that this will work. Will that be the case? Thanks in advance! |

The Asus DG can't handle 5.1 through S/PDIF but the DS/DX/DSX can.

SIIG components are generally overpriced. I don't know if it will do what you need.
