Intel socket 1155 and 1156

What's the difference between these two? What does my Celeron G540 (Sandy Bridge) fit?

LGA 1155 is the newest one.

LGA 1156 was only available for a short time. It was basically a transitional socket between generations of hardware.

LGA 1155 is essentially the current standard for Intel CPUs.

The Celeron G540 is a LGA 1155 CPU, and won't work in a LGA 1156 socket.
