motherboard problems
I have this computer it is Compaq presario SR2180NX it has an Asus motherboard .
For some reason the fan that is connected to the inside of the back pannel and is connected to the motherboard using the three prong connection stopped working and at that time couldn`t get computer started so removed the connection cleaned up the fan plugged it in and it works but makes a loud noise so am scared to leave it plugged in. If I remove it than there is a message comes up when I start tthe computer that I have to press F2 and to please have the motherboard checked out. So my question is should I leave the fan plugged in or remove it the fan is working. unless the connection is faulty. Can I get rid of message that pops up in the BIOS I can`t seem to find a place to do so. Not really sure what to do. Hopefully someone has an answer. Thanks |

I would replace the fan. It shouldn't be difficult to find a correct size fan with a 3 prong connector. You can safely leave it disconnected for now and just press F2 when you need to restart.

If I remember correctly those Compaq SR series were fitted with an 80mm case fan similar to this:
