Old Dell Latitude D600 weirdo!

Hi all,

Can anyone help. Not so much a problem just weird.

A work friend asked me to install Windows XP on an old Dell Latitude D600.

Just a quick question...

Does anyone know why this laptop has decided to lose it's VGA display completely? The display now only boots from scratch in XGA mode (earlier today it booted in VGA mode)?...

This is a pic of the BIOS which is usually displayed in full screen VGA mode...

Are there any yellow icons in Device Manager?

Try reinstalling your existing video driver. If that does not work then I would try going onto Dell's website and use the service tag code to find the video drivers for your laptop. It could be something else but I would first confirm that your video driver is working and not corrupt or missing.

Not a driver issue, that has nothing to do with the display before Windows starts. Look in the bios for "Video Expansion" settings.

Thanks Dave but as George rightly said, the problem is before it reaches XP.

Anyway, YUP George..... Video Expansion was 'Disabled'. Enabled it again.

Don't you think it strange it 'disabled' itself?

Probably would not have seen that issue if installing from a Dell XP Recovery disc.

The BIOS battery could be failing in a machine that old. Does the real-time clock remember the time?
