WD Bkack Drive still the favorite?

New build for family coming up soon but I'm concern about the reviews of this particular drive:Newegg.com - Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Any other hdd recommendations, or the above drive is still good enough?

Thanks.

Are these Newegg reviews? If so, take them with a grain of salt. I think Amazon has better reviews for the same product but for all reviews, have the gain on your BS meter turned all the way up to 10. Amazon reviews are more lengthy and detailed. There are also a lot more of them. They also have a ranking system done by the websites users which puts the most helpful reviews first.

To answer your question, the experts here recommend WD Black's the most often.

You should really take another look at the stats on reviews. Going by Newegg's rating, the best drive when sorted by 'best rated' is $139 for 300 gigs, thats pretty darn expensive.

Note: Newegg does not take consideration for the amount of reviews recieved. You will see that any drive with a single five star rating, rates better than the most reviewed hdd.

this drive:
Newegg.com - Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Now we resort the reviews to the 'most reviews' and we see our 1tb WD at the top of the list:
Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Hard Drives, Internal Hard Drives, SATA 6.0Gb/s
Over 2,000 reviews and with a four star rating

The closest one to it has only 863 reviews. Even without the support of the professionals here, the 1tb WD wins hands down in the SATA 6/gb category.

All spin drives eventually go bad. WD Black's have the best warranty (5 years) and have the best track record. I have had excellent results using them in my builds.

I'm looking for a drive too and when I read the reviews I look at the dates. I see a trend where there's a bad batch of drives show up. They show up together in a week or so.

Because of that I have to look at the higher priced ones or different brands where there's no bad batch.

Thanks guys, I do not see reviews of the the same drive at Amazon :Newegg.com - Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

however I do see reviews of this drive:Amazon.com: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Desktop Hard Drive Bulk/OEM - WD1002FAEX: Electronics

The hdd in question is :Caviar Blk 1Tb 6G/S Sata 7200Rpm 64Mb 5Yr (WD1002FAEX) -I do not see reviews on this drive.

The other one with about 708 reviews at Amazon:Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Desktop Hard Drive Bulk/OEM - WD1002FAEX. I think they are not the same, right?

Rwest, that was an interesting observation regarding Newegg reviews.Thanks.

They both say WD1002FAEX therefore they are exactly the same drive.

The only other difference between the same exact drive are that OEM drives come just with the drive in an anti-static bag. The other choice is the retail version which comes in a box and typically costs a little bit more. Newegg's term Bare drive and Amazon's term OEM drive mean the same thing.

Thanks David M, I did not see the SATA 6 Gb/s interface description in the drive info but it's there at the bottom,I only saw SATA 111 without the SATA 6 Gb/s interface so I was not sure they are both the samre drive.

Thanks again.

I finally picked one. I ordered a Seagate Constellation 1TB. It only had 4 reviews but they spanned months and some bought more than one. They rated it very highly, all 5 eggs.

To make it sweeter, Newegg had it $30 instant off.
