Trying to salvage data off Hitachi Deskstar
Trying to get the data off a friend's bad Hitachi Deskstar 160gb SATA drive. The date on the drive 2007. I pulled it from a Dell desktop computer.
I’m using my USB SATA adapter to connect to my computer and the drive shows up in My Computer as a drive letter, but you can’t access it to copy any data off. I downloaded a Hitach drive utility but it does not recognize the drive. Any ideas or other utilities to try? Is the freezer trick still relevant? TIA.

g,
I got WinDFT but it won't recognize this Hitachi drive after a scan. The drive shows up as a drive letter in Computer, but I just can't access anything. Any other utilities to try? |

Got an old XP box laying around? You could also try booting a live Distro of Linux like GParted and see if you can access them that way.
