Custom connection/port on the rear of computer case
Hello all,
I have a couple different reasons that I need to wire in a secondary power switch into into my desktop cases. Mainly my computer is hard to get to constantly, so I have a power switch mounted to my desk that I have used for years. Basically I just splice into the existing power switch wires and wire it up. As the years have gone by, and my asthetic desires have changed (and I now have the tools to do so), I am looking for a more elegant way to do this without necessarily cutting or modifying the wire that is attached to the case in case I deside to sell or give it away. Basically I will make a custom Y cable that I will plug into the motherboard. Imagine this, but with a 2X1 connector. One going to my custom switch, one going to the normal power switch. That is simple. Pololu - Twisted servo Y splitter cable 12" female - 2x female. On to my question. when it comes to sending the wire out of the back of my case, I normally drill a hole into the back of one of the blank PCI plates, but I am trying to fin some sort of pass through connector that I can mount in the back of my case. I have plenty of room available. I have been tossing around the idea of using a standardized barrel jack, something like so: Panel Mount 2.1mm DC barrel jack ID: 610 - $2.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits or Size N Panel-Mount Coaxial DC Power Jack : Power Jacks | RadioShack.com Can anyone think of any other type of connectors that I could use to pass the wires through the back of my case? I have been searching for alternatives for a while, but I am coming up blank. It is possible that I just dont know the proper terminology to search for. Keep in mind, I am looking for something that is at least reasonably decent looking. I will be using this type of a connector internally, it would be great if I could use that on the outside too, but I am not seeing a mountable "socket" that looks like that. Thanks in advance for any ideas |

I could use something like this.
Pomona Electronics - 6884 - Test Connectors - Test Connectors - Allied Electronics and use banana plugs, but that seems like overkill (and a bit of added expense). I was looking for a small simple mountable connector. A simple 2 pin connector like that power switch uses to connect to the mobo would be perfect, but maybe I am hoping too much

Try a very common 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch mono panel mounted female audio connector. Drill a hole through one of your blanking plates and mount it there. I think it would look professional. You will want to wire it in parallel to your existing on/off switch.
