Is my PSU powerfull enough to run a GTX 660 TI or Radeon HD7950
Hi everybody,
I am looking to upgrade from my integrated card to a single dedicated setup. The two cards I'm currently looking at are the Radeon HD 7950 and the GTX 660 Ti. My problem is that my PSU is a Corsair 430 CX, which does not appear to provide enough power and only has one PCIE connector, where both cards require two. From what I have found online, opinion seems to be divided as to whether this PSU can handle either of the two cards. Apparently, I could use a molex adapter to provide the extra PCIE connector, however I am still not sure the PSU will be up to the job. My specs are: PSU: Corsair 430 CX CPU: Intel Core i5 3450 3.1 Ghz RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Vengeance Memory I am also using a single SATA HD and DVD/RW Any help appreciated! |

That is not an efficient PSU for either GPU.

AMD's published requirements for a 7950 is a 500 watt PSU. Nvidia's published minimum for a 660 Ti is 450 watts. Not only is a CX 430 not efficient, it doesn't meet minimums and it's not a well-made unit.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick responses. My budget is limited so I was thinking perhaps upgrading to the 500 CX? I realise that there a lot of criticisms leveled against the CX series but I am on a very tight budget. |

Then I would wait and save up for a PSU that will work for sure and is more reliable than a CX. A TX650 is only an additional $30 over a CX500.
