Thinking About Adding SSD - Opinions?
Hey there all your techies.
![]() Okay, so a few years back, I built the desktop that is in my signature. Motherboard is ASUS P7P55-D, Intel i5-760, WD Black 1TB, HIS 6850, etc. For awhile now, I have been debating on whether to get a SSD or not. I would greatly benefit from one, since I use several programs for school and work. Some IDEs like Visual Studio Professional 2010 for C#, Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Development, Dreamweaver for HTML Development. I also play several games like BF3, Skyrim, Borderlands, etc. I would like to get one, but what are everyone's opinion on it? Would it even be compatible with my old hardware? P.S. I'm really not looking to spend over $200 for one, because they still seem a little expensive to me. Either this one or this one

It will work, but the Marvell SATA 6.0 controller on that board doesn't support TRIM.

Is TRIM an essential part of SSD operation? I know it deals with overhead garbage collection, but would it really affect the performance of the SSD significantly?
