Laptop won't go through the Window updates

So not to long ago I bought a nice Lenovo Ultrabook N410. Since I bought it has been telling me it has new window updates I install them then restart it and tells me fails to configure update and reverting changes. It has been going like this for months, been very busy with work and didn't have time to come say hello to my PCMech folks.

It has window7 home premium I am thinking in removing it and installing Win7 Ultim but first I would like to figure out the problem I am experiencing.

By the way I also got Wind 8 with this laptop but never download it and my father bought my brothers a home Dell PC that comes with it and honestly I hate wind 8 lol

It may be something on the Lenovo side. Have you tried updating the laptop hardware/software through the ThinkVantage update (if it is still installed on laptop)? Do critical ones first, then see what they have as far as optional.

Any error codes when the update fails?

I was also thinking about that now that you mention it. I'm on the road back to Greensboro NC (work) will look in to this later.

I had the same problem with a Vista install. I contacted MS about the issue. They worked on my computer, online, for 3 days. They couldn't find the problem, but their final solution worked and that was to reinstall the OS.

Tried the Lenovo Solution Center and tells me there's no update everything on my Laptop seems to be working fine. So this is getting annoying and looks like I am just going to go ahead and installed W7 Ultimate.

Microsoft's no-charge e-mail support for updates.

Is there an easy way in pulling all my current drivers so when I change the OS I can install them right away? or do I have to do it the usual way of going through the Brand website and downloading them?

For Lenovo's Thinkpads, I prefer the ThinkVantage software as it takes the guess work out of it and some of the drivers are enhanced to the hardware. However, you may be satisfied with what Windows selects as this will cut down on the bloatware. That of course is dependent on having an exact copy of Windows and using the license key on the laptop.

Typically with Linux, all drivers are supported by the kernel out of the gate. Now they may recommend a Proprietary video driver for 3D acceleration and anti-aliasing but that is up to you.

Why are you installing 7 Ultimate? The best way to fix it is back up your data files, then use the recovery partition.

Lenovo laptop comes with a HDD & SSD. Has a bunch of partions on its HDD and the SSD has some Lenovo crap. Do I need to quick format both drives to install W7 Ultimate since I want to change the OS.

Just tried the Flash drive on my PC like if I was going to re install the OS fresh from the start and is reading my HDD and its partions so I am going to assume the problem is between my laptop HDD and SSD.

Disk 2 is his flash drive. Ignore that. I'm very confused by what I see as Disk 0 and Disk 1. I was under the impression that those lower end Ultrabooks had a 24gb SSD acting as a SRT cache for a 500gb hard drive.

When I go to the Bios it tells me it has a 32gb SSD and the HDD is 500gb should I wipe out both clean? Then reinstall the OS with my Flash drive?

I have no idea. I have never seen a disk management screen that looks like that. I might believe that Disk 1 is your hard drive (and those partitions don't make any sense at all to me), but I sure don't see a 32gb SSD in there anywhere.

I'm not sure you want to do that. A 32gb SSD really isn't big enough to hold an operating system once you start installing apps. I *REALLY* think you need to reconsider and just do a system recovery.

Yea I already did a system recovery seems to be working OK now lets see if I don't get those annoying updates notifications and ends up not going through them. I am going to wait until I get ahold of a bigger SSD

Just did a bit more research and found out my Ultrabook comes with an MSATA SSD which I was not aware that SSD existed kind of disappointed.

So I am looking at these 2

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...irtualParent=1

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167145

Then can it be installed as my main OS drive? or would it stay as a cache drive?
