DVD ROM/Registry question
From out of nowhere the Lite-On optical drive disappeared from the bottom machine in my sig. It wouldn't play and though it appears in the Device Manager, it has a yellow 'trouble' triangle by it. Tried updating driver, one popup says I have the lastest driver and another says the update failed. I've disconnected the drive, cleaned with CCleaner, restarted and reconnected the drive. It didn't Plug n Play, so same story. Restarted again, the drive is recognized in Device Manager again with the same yellow triangle, everything else the same.
I'm thinking that because the values for the drive are still in the registry, the same ones causing the problem, the device is using the old corrupted drivers and I get the same messages. I have two questions. The drive is mechanically functional and seldom used. (Desperately need it now for tax preparation.) It appears to me that all I need to do is remove everything related to the drive from the registry, or at least the values referring to the drivers. Question #1, exactly what do I delete? Do I delete EVERYTHING visible on the screens, including the # (4D36 E965-E325xxxxxx318) which points to the drive, or do I remove some, or all of the entries on the right side of the screen? What is the identity of the entries referring to the drivers? Help!!!

I would just replace the drive. When I have replaced optics, I've just swapped them out and it works with no going into the registry or deleting files/drivers.

This is a common issue. All you need to do is delete the upper and lower filters in the registry.

Thanks, that answered most of my questions. Not time at all and it's working as it should! Didn't have a Lower Filter but the article indicated that isn't uncommon.
Again, thanks! |
