WD Green Storage Drive

I'm thinking of getting more storage space for the computer in my signature - I'm looking at this hard drive:

WD Green 1 TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, SATA III, 64 MB Cache

Is this backwards compatible?

If someone has a better recommendation for 1-2 TB hard drives, throw it out there. I wanted a storage drive that I could use in this computer and the next, which I may get later this year or next. I would've waited except that my two current drives are full.

I chose the eco-friendly drive since I don't think I'll need super performance. And to ease that heavy conscience. I assume I'll be able to play HD movies from it without a problem.

No problem playing HD movies from a Green drive. I put one in my satellite DVR for HD playback. A Black would be overkill for what you need it for. A Green is also quieter.

I recently used a Green drive for a primary OS drive in a computer rebuild, and it works fine.

HOWEVER - that particular Green drive is an advanced format drive, and to use it with XP will require an align.

WD Support / Downloads

You will have to register the drive to get to the download page.

Thanks for the replies. I'm reading about a problem with the 3TB version that has to do with a setting that makes the head 'park' every eight seconds, shortening the life of the drive. I don't know if this affects the smaller versions, but I assume the workaround app will work with it.

I don't know if the EZRX drives are affected.
