RAM for XPS 9000

Since I've gotten my new PC the wife wants me to upgrade the memory and and a Blue Ray on the old Dell XPS 9000. Blue Ray is in and running. I had a question about the ram, what do I need to buy. 8GB is what she wants for some of her graphics editing and she still plays League of LEgends.

Took a bit of effort and dell support was minimally helpful but this is the mobo it has
Dell (X501H) Motherboard - Motherboards - Product Reviews and Prices - Shopping.com

What ram would you recommend snagging?

Buy it from here and nowhere else:

Computer memory upgrades for Dell Studio XPS 9000 Desktop/PC from Crucial.com

It will work best installed in sets of 3. That has a triple channel motherboard.

Since you can't do 8gb into 3 sticks should I grab a 12gb(4gb x 3) or just 3 individual 3gb sticks and run at 9gb?

For example grab http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...38DD6AA5CA7304 and pop one stick into each of the blue DIMM slots?

What exactly is in it now? (Size, speed, number)

They don't make 3gb sticks.

My bad, I went back and tried to find that 3gb stick. I just misread the line.
How does 12g (3 4gb sticks) sound?

What ram is IN IT NOW?

That kit sounds fine if you pull what's in it. When you tell me what's in it, I may be able to save you some money.

In that case I'd pull it and get the exact kit you posted. You have slow DDR3-1066 in it now.

It is easy to miss on the Crucial site. Click on "show all compatible memory" for a huge selection

Sorry for the delayed reply, tore a tendon and have been bouncing around on crutches at the doctors.
I received that kit you said to get glc. Would it be fine to leave in 3 sticks of the ram that was already there or would that cause conflict? ie run with 15gigs instead of the 12gig kit only.

Remove it, it's slower ram. It will slow the new ram down.
