EC Flash Might Be Corrupted!
Good morning everyone. With the help here I built a pc about a year and a half ago. Everything has been fine, no problems until today. I went to start the pc and on the sign in screen, It was pink and yellow instead of the normal colors. Knowing something was not right I shut down the computer and restarted it. I then got a message saying the EC or EC Flash Might Be Corrupt, contact Asus and then it shuts the computer down. So l unplugged the computer, pulled the battery and cleared the Cmos, and everything seems to be working right now, but I am puzzled, I do not know what cause this. Here are my computer Spec! Also Windows just ran a program looking for solutions, and it came up with a Video error, But said no solutions found!

Your BIOS chip is on its way out. 3 year warranty, you need to contact Asus if it happens again.

Thanks GLC, I was afraid to hear this, can you tell me a little bit more about this. I am not familiar with the EC, or what any of this means. I am the type of person, where it drives me crazy if something is broke and I do not understand why!

EC is embedded controller. Clearing the CMOS doesn't necessarily reset it.

They may have you flash the BIOS and replace the battery first. However, the BIOS chip is more than likely corrupted and needs to be replaced which is not very common with an Asus motherboard. I suppose it happens, I just don't see it unless someone flashes the BIOS incorrectly.
Have you recently flashed the BIOS prior to this issue? Like glc said, contact Asus as resetting the BIOS is a temporary thing and eventually it will become unstable. They will probably just send you a new board to ease the transition. |

Thanks for the replies. I updated the Bios in August of 2012, so for 8 months since the bios update the PC has been working OK. So I do not believe I flashed the bios incorrectly. I have been on the phone with ASUS for a hour, and no one picks up so I will try again tomorrow, and give a update.

I talked to Asus this evening. The guy was not real sure what the error was, and put me on hold, and said I will find out. He came back to say it was probably a fluke, and when I cleared the cmos I fixed the problem, Go figure. Oh well at least I have a 3 year warranty on this board. I had one other problem with this board a while back, and sent it in, and they could not find out anything. I am starting to see a pattern!
