New Computer
In need of a new low cost computer and my glaucoma and arthritis won't let me build one. Best Buy has a Lenovo K410 desktop,4gb ram,1tb hard drive. Do you think this is a more dependeble computer than the HP in my sig. We use it mostly for editing pictures and of course my wife shops and does Facebook.
Best Buy only wants $329.99 for this machine.

Are you a Costco member? They seem to have better prices than Best Buy on desktops. Costco's markup is never more than 15%.

That is an excellent machine for that price. Looks like it's on sale, the BB website says it's $399.99.

Another thing to consider is going to a local mom and pop PC store and have them build you one. Lehigh Valley Computers in Whitehall | Lehigh Valley Computers (610) 443-2259 & 3690 Lehigh St, Ste C, Whitehall, PA 18052 | |

Or you could order the exact parts you want and get a kid to build it for you under your supervision.

If you haven't bought one yet, the Lenovo Outlet has a few very K410 models for $284.20 with FREE Shipping! They come with a full 1-year Warranty, just like a new one!

New computer
Thanks. Great link, great price. I have to wait a few more weeks until I can afford it. Probably by then it will be gone but it's a gamble I have to take.

Actually, I've been poking round on the Dell Business Outlet website a bit tonight and I have an idea! Dell's high-volume desktop line for medium to large businesses is called Optiplex. They always have plenty of current or very recent models in stock, some BRAND NEW. You can get an OptiPlex 3010 with specs very similar to the Lenovo K410 for $359 and I'm sure they'll still have them when you're ready to buy. The vast majority of them have Windows 7 Professional instead of Windows 8 (a BIG plus in my book) and here's the best part- they come with a standard 3-year Limited Warranty, just the same as if you ordered them brand new from the Dell Business site! I'm a big fan of the Dell Latitude E6000-series for the same reason. Every single one, whether Refurbished, Scratch/Dent or NEW, comes from the Outlet with a full 3-year Warranty! Anyway, just give me a shout when you're ready to buy and I'll be glad to help you find a great deal. Getting awesome deals on computers and cars are my areas of expertise, so to speak....I enjoy helping folks save money whenever I can! |

Trying to put Skype on this machiene and it keeps asking me for a Microsoft account before installing. I don't have one and don't want one. Never had to do that before. Anybody know how to get around it? I Skype my grandkids that are 2800 miles away.

you have to create one... Microsoft bought Skype and then merged Windows Live Messenger into Skype...
that will be the new Instant Messenger... Sorry there is no way around it unless you use an older installer of skype but eventually you will be forced to upgrade and make an account.
