Avermedia USB Capture in Black/white only

I have a Avermedia USB Video Capture model #C038 plugged straight into a USB port on my comp and connected by S-video to a video camera. The video should be in color but only shows up in B/W and it shows up using AMcap software also. The model doesn't show up on the Avermedia site but Windows7 64 recognized it and it produced video so there's something else wrong. I tried another driver for the C036 which looks similar and same result of B/W. Avermedia support is email only so I hoped someone here could help.

I previously had a Hauppage capture card that the camera worked fine with in XP so I know the camera is good. When I switched to win7 64 I specifically picked this USB capture since it's compatible with win7 64, and my previous Hauppage card was not.

Have you tried a different cable? Is there some other port (composite, RGB) that you can try? Do you have access to another capture card that you could use to test the camera/cable together to make sure they're both still working okay? (I know you said it worked before, but things do just go bad sometimes and you want to prove that the camera and/or cable haven't gone bad since they last worked for you.)

Do you have some other device you can attach to verify that the card and driver work?

I worked on your suggestions today. I tried a different cable, tried different USB port, and tried the composite video instead of S-video with all the same result. I don't have another capture card to use other than ordering another.

I wish there was some basic capture driver that works for all cameras.
