HP 6730s laptop won't turn on
 

Hi All,

I own an HP 6730s laptop and today it will not power on. I have tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds, 1 minute and 2 minutes. Nothing. There is absolutely no recognition by the laptop that's it plugged in at all. I know the power adapters are good because one I use with my own laptop. One is an official HP adapter, the other is a Pwr+ brand. The HP adapter does nothing at all. When I plug the Pwr+ in, instead of having a solid blue light on the brick, as it does when I have it plugged into my laptop, it blinks slowly. Can anyone help me with this, or is this laptop destined for the trash bin?

A real common problem with laptops is that the a/c adapter breaker loose from the mobo. Then when the battery runs out - you have no power.

For grins, you can try plugging in the power cord and giggling it a bit to see if you can get it to make a connection.

I tried doing that to no avail unfortunately. Even worse, this laprtip has a proprietary screwdriver required to open up the laptop :/

I bet if you look around on the internet you can find someone selling exactly the proprietary screwdriver you need. Stuff like that never stops people, it just temporarily irritates them.

Can you provide a pic of the screws head?

How old is this laptop? Any chance it's still on warranty?

I'll see if I can find the proper screwdriver. GLC, the laptop is no longer in warranty as it is about 4 years old.

It just seems strange that all of a sudden it quits working like that. There were no strange sounds like the power supply was failing or anything :confused:

It won't make any strange sounds. The power adapter plugs into a socket in the side of the laptop, and depending on the laptop, the socket is connected to the motherboard in various ways. Frequently, a solder joint breaks in there causing it to no longer be connected. Sometimes, all it takes is resoldering. Other times, the socket block or even the motherboard has to be replaced.
