seagate desktop external not rec C: drive

I have a seagate desktop external hard drive. I have backed up with it before so not sure why I have a problem. Backed up with it before then wiped out my C: drive. Need to clean out C: drive again, but the external hard drive only shows F: drive which is the external hard drive. it is not recognizing C: or D: drive with D: being my original Vista backup.

What app did you use to make the backup?
Did you copy all your documents across or backup the entire drive including the OS?

the first time i backed up using the external hard drive i used the software that come with it. but at one point i also had to reformat that drive. I downloaded the seagate desktop software from their site onto my C: drive.

the external drive f: will not detect the c: drive where everything is. I can't copy anything right now.

What did you do - boot to the external drive? You don't do that.

no i boot up to c: drive into windows then I plugged the f: external drive in by usb. It shows in My Computers as F: drive. I installed the seagate backup manager software to my C: drive, that is that only place that it will install to. I click the icon on my c: drive and it shows My drives with only f: showing. it doesn't show c: drive or my d: drive

Click WHAT icon on your C drive? I'm confused.

If I'm understanding this right, the Seagate Backup Manager won't show the drive on which the program is installed (I'm assuming that it is installed on your C: drive). The reasoning behind this is because it is redundant to make a backup on the same drive as your operating system. The only drive that the SBM will recognize is another external Seagate drive (it is recognizing your F: external drive). It will not recognize your D: drive either (assuming that the C: drive is your primary drive, and the D: drive is your DVD/CD burner) because you can't back up to a DVD/CD through the manager.

In short, the Backup Manager only sends backups to your external F: drive and nowhere else.
