PIII 600, how far can I overclock?

How far can I safely overclock my PIII 600?
And how do I do that(without using an extra fan, just my standard fan)?

Take it up a bit at a time and keep an eye on the heat. The majority of the PIII 600's that I have dealt with go to a 133Mhz FSB no problem which will get you 900Mhz. If you own a PIII 600EB processor that is already at a 133Mhz FSB, it probably won't go too much higher than 600Mhz.

I managed to get my 600Mhz to 815Mhz safely and it was totally stable. I had to add an exhaust fan to the back of the case right under the power supply to help control the heat though.

I was able to change the FSB in the Bios rather than physically on the motherboard so you can try checking there.

Why can't I find FSB in the BIOS?

You're probably going to need your motherboard manual. If you don't have anything to change in the BIOS, your board probably uses dip switches or jumpers. In that case, you need the manual to know what to set where. If by chance this is an Intel brand motherboard, then you cannot overclock. If this is a name brand machine such as Compaq, HP, etc, there is also a good chance that it cannot be overclocked.

With the ASUS CUV4X, it can be done both ways. In the BIOS, just go to where the CPU speed is, highlight it and bump it up. Since the multiplier is locked on your CPU, it will only take up the FSB.

HAL, that excellent Saskatchewan education is showing.
A PIII 600 at 133mhz FSB will only yield 800mhz. You need 150mhz FSB to get 900mhz (that's where mine runs).
To get this much out of a PIII, you need a chipset that can handle it (Intel 440BX), RAM that can handle it (Micron PC150), and a whole lot of luck. Hopefully a CPU, motherboard, and RAM (along with all your peripherals) built on a Wednesday under a full moon, in mid-spring...
Most PIII's (the 100mhz FSB variety) will get to 133mhz FSB, but not all. A very rare one will get 150mhz, and still be stable.

Yup, same chip. Cranked it to 133 the day I got it, ran the benchmarks/burnin over night, and took it to 150 the next day.
Been there ever since, and totally flawless, except for the "too much RAM in windows 98" issue, not the chip's fault.
The 600@900 (with the 150mhz FSB) outperforms the Athlon 1.4 at (supposedly) 266mhz FSB with the same amount of RAM, albeit different mobos (duh).

Yes you guys Said it - got a 667 Plll Eb 133Mhz - coppermine here running on a P3B-F and it's maxed out at 750Mhz - this with 150Mhz FSB..but it runs smooth - and so leave it there - the parts were free - both the motherboard came in death - repaired it the CPU also came in death - again repaired it - all it took was a good clean to get it running again... -Slot One having it'e little child sicknesses - knowing them - got many back to life.... but it's one of the fastest Slot one I have seen..
