Rain on an Athlon
I used Rain cpu cooler on my K6/3 with great stability and success. I'm now running an Athlon T-Bird 1.2. Rain has nothing higher than a K6/3 listed in its cpu list. Has anyone used it with an Athlon? I have rain running, but I didn't select a cpu and from what I can tell it's not doing anything. I didn't find anything on the web relating to suport for Athlons. TIA!

Many such programs tend to make Athlons run hotter!
It's advised to see if there's an updated version or try a different program |

It's like cpu idle; sends a set of instructions to the cpu to idle when not in use. My K6/3 would run 5-8c degrees cooler with it. There are many types of these programs. The 3 most popular are: waterfall, rain, cpu idle. I did search for an updated version of rain but couldn't find one. My athlon 1.2 was running at 30-35c but after I flashed the bios it was reported at 40-45c, and went as high as 51c with the case panel back on. But Sisoft Sandra still reported it at the old temps (about 10 degrees celsius cooler than what the motherboards software was indicating). I recall reading a review of thr Abit KT7A/Raid mb that I'm using and in it they flashed the bios and had the same increase in reporting temps. It's off by 10c. Just to make sure I downloaded motherboard monitor and it agrees with Sisoft Sandra. So, I really am running well within the safe zone and probably don't need "Rain". But I am curious if a version exists that will work with an Athlon.

Hi Michael,
You may also want to give Motherboard Monitor a shot, if you're not sure what temp your cpu is running at. The Bios temp should be the most accurate, but it's a little interesting that it changed so much after flashing the bios. Motherboard monitor runs in windows and reports your cpu temp. It generally is pretty accurate as well. HTH |

Hi Floppy man----if you read my last post you'll see I did download mb monitor and it agrees with sisoft as to the temp.
