PS/2 Mouse problems Help!!!!!
Hey guys. Just installed a ASUS P4T-E MOBO. Setup everything fine and installed windows me. Computer was working great. I had and old Microsoft PS/2 junk mouse that I found in the trash hooked up to the system and it has been working fine. This past weekend and found a Microsoft Intellimouse PS/2 you know the kind with the wheel button. I just unplugged the original mouse and plugged this new one in and it works fine. However when my computer reboots the mouse doesn't work. I just get the pointer dead slap in the middle of the screen and it doesn't move. Even if I go back and install the old mouse it still doesn't work. I have to go and reboot the computer to get the old mouse to work. I tried downloading the intellimouse software from microsoft but it didn't help. Anybody have any ideas. Help would be appreciated greatly since the computer is a christmas present. Thanks

Your post makes it sound like you are unplugging/plugging PS2 type mice in while the system is on. You really should not do that if that is the case. Turn it off 1st. I don't know exactly what your problem is, but if you are finding mice in the trash that is probably where they belong.

You've probably already solved your problem by now, but here's what I did when I installed my new Logitec cordless optical mouse.
With the old mouse still in place, I installed the software for the Logitec. Shut down the computer, change out the mouse(make sure any adapters are seated real good). Restart the computer. That's all I had to do. I had a problem to start with as the USB to PS-2 adapter wasn't plugged in good. After I discovered that, everything went fine. HTH. |

My PS/2 port "died" recently, and changing mice while the computer is on may have fried yours also(although mine died for other, unknown, reasons). Try the mouse in a different machine to see if it works. If so, you may have to do what I have done...buy a USB mouse. Also, as stated above, check your device manager and Add/Remove programs to make sure only 1 mouse/driver is present.
