Hello...
I have got TWO Pentium III 800/Slot 1/100mhz System Bus processors, and I have been looking for a new motherboard to accommodate them. From what I can see the Gigabyte GA-6BXD motherboard would be the best choice, (my preference, as my last two boards were from Gigabyte) However Im having trouble tracking down this motherboard... I have been told it may be discontinued? (although it still features on the Gigabyte site?) I also need to know If this board will accommodate the ELSA Synergy III AGP Graphics board.??? Any Ideas or solutions For a DUAL PIII 800 board with The ELSA Synergy III AGP Graphics board would be GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks... |

www.mwave.com has this Gigabyte board for 119, has a VIA chipset though and is Socket 370. Here's a dual PIII board roundup at Tom's Hardware. I don't recall if there's any Slot 1 boards though. I'm sure you can find the board you want, go to www.pricewatch.com and search for it, see if anyone has any.

Hi stabbins,
Tracking down a new dual Slot 1 motherboard isn't going to be easy as Intel stopped Slot 1 processor production some time ago. For a good dual CPU motherboard, my suggestion would be to look for a Tyan motherboard. Also, running a dual motherboard requires an OS that will support the 2 CPU's being used (Win9x or ME does not support SMP). WinNT or 2000 will support SMP (not sure about XP Home, but I think XP Pro does) as will any flavor of Linux. You'll also need software applications that support SMP, and there aren't very many of them (AutoCAD, PhotoShop are two that come to mind). You CAN run Win9x or ME on a SMP motherboard, but only 1 CPU will be utilized so it kind of defeats the purpose of having a dual CPU motherboard. They do look cool though. Cricket

Thanks Loads!!
I'm getting a wee bit farther... I found the Gigabyte GA-6BXD on an auction a few minutes ago ...really cheap... Although im gonna try and find alternatives? I am building this machine specifically around 3ds max 4... Ive got a new job coming up and I need to get the parts together quick! I know Max works great with dual processors and the ELSA Synergy III Is recommeded by discreet as a graphics board for Max... I m just wondering will the ELSA 'like' this Motherboard?? |

Hello Stabbins,
I would highly recommend a "BX" class system board rather then a "patched VIA". Your installation will be far easier and more stable. Virtually an BX class system board will support "most" AGP boards with the exception of some the 1.5 volt variants. (AGP 4x) I am not familiar with your particular vid-card so I can offer no assurance here.

Hi,
There's another one the Tyan Tiger 100 rev. F. It's a dual slot 1 board based on the BX chipset. Revision F supports up to 800mhz PIII's if I'm not mistaken. I had this exact same board with dual PIII 600E's and it ran great. A good site to check out that deals with SMP and 2 cpu's is www.2cpu.com . Here's a link to a review of the Tyan Tiger 100 rev. F: http://2cpu.com/Hardware/tyantiger10...100_rev_f.html HTH Last edited by Floppyman; 12-30-2001 at 12:26 PM. |
