LiteOn Corporation

I was thinking of getting a LiteOn 24x10x40 CD-RW. They're way cheap, and have a burn-proof equivilant (so they claim) so I was thinkin for under a $100, I couldn't go wrong. I went to their site, based in Taiwan trying to get some information on the company, but the slow connection to Taiwan guzzled my patience and all I know is they are partnered with JVC. I was just wondering what you guys have heard about the company, and if any of you own a LiteOn drive, is it any good?

On a semi-related note, VisionTek, an unknown company just over a year ago, is now the biggest distributer of nvidia's 3d Accelerator cards in the world. Could LiteOn follow? Probably not, but its just a thought!

THe Lite-On CD-ROM Drives have had a reputation for early failures, however their CD-RW drives seem to be fine and when copying RAW Data and DAO (Game Disk Copying) the seenm to be amoung the best. I have installed ( of them in the past year and have no reports of failure or problems.

Alright, I think I'll get one... they seem to be very reputable in the Korea area, and have just started (year or so ago) their American marketing thing. So, I guess I'll give them a shot and if something goes bad, I'll probably end up here flaming about that rotten Korean company. I doubt that'll happen, we just bought a Korean car (Hyundai) and its great. Good luck you all with yoru drives, and whoever posted about closing threads... I got what I wanted, THREAD CLOSED

Yup, we started using LiteOn CDRW's in September of 2000 and have yet to get one returned. We were using them not only because they were cheap, but if they did fail, our system builder covers the entire box for 3 years even though the drive only has a 1 year warranty, so we figured what do we have to lose. So far so good. We have also started using their DVD drives. Been using them for about 4 months, no returns yet, but it's also early. I wouldn't touch their CD-Roms though if you payed me, they're junk.

16x10x40 Lite On.........I love it!!!! Check out this site which seems to favor Lite On and Plextor above all others. http://www.cdrom-guide.com/cgi/Ultimate.cgi

BTW, BUS LINK which is sold at Best Buy is a rebadged Lite On.
